What did the update do?
The Google Play download model consists of several models ranging from machine learning methods to distributional assumption models. The machine learning part has been improved to be more stable and subsequently the estimations have been refit. This fixes inconsistencies in smaller markets. As a result the MAPE (Median Absolute Percentage Error) improved in almost all countries (US by 2%) and here are the top ten markets in terms of accuracy gains:
Also, with every rerun we use more partner data and the estimates have been adjusted to fit into the global ranges given by the Google Play Store.
Overall, better models means better accuracy. We understand it might generate inconvenience on your side and are keen to work with you to reduce them as much as possible. You can read more about our thinking around how we communicate our data here.
